About Hilder & Son

Hilder & Son Wallpaper Installers is new to the Northeast, but our story began in 1979 with my father, Hilder. He began working with wallpaper hangers in Miami, Florida, and quickly realized there was a need for more skilled craftsman who knew how to work with high end wall coverings. From that point on, Hilder invested his time, energy, and resources into honing the craft and building his business, Ruiz Interiors.

When I was in elementary school, I started tagging along with my dad on the days I didn’t have school. I would watch him work, fetch his tools, wash his sponges, and wallpaper the switch plates. At the time, I would have rather been home watching cartoons, but looking back, I’m grateful for the lessons I learned on those days, specifically to take pride in my work by giving attention to detail.

As a young adult, when I was deciding on what I wanted to do for work, I realized there was still a need for wallpaper hangers. There was consistent demand for it in luxury markets, especially hangers that were skilled with grasscloth and other high end materials. I found I enjoyed working with my hands and being part of the “before and after” process.

I decided to follow in my dad’s footsteps and spent the last 14 years working alongside my family, hanging every kind of paper imaginable. I then took on greater responsibility, taking the lead on larger scale projects for the past 10 years. My wife joined the team as my assistant in 2021 (Her father used to hang paper too- I guess you could say we are meant to be).

In 2022, my wife Devon, and I moved to Connecticut and started Hilder & Son, a name we chose to reflect all the lessons I learned working alongside my dad and the relationships of trust we are dedicated to building with our new clients here in the Northeast.
